missionaries arrived after 1870 \u2014 among them Daniel Cloete, Gottlieb Viehe, Edward Dannert, and August Kuhlmann.\n\nThey were educators as much as religious figures, introducing scientific agricultural practices to the region. They also founded Namibia&#039;s first meteorological research station \u2014 a lasting scientific legacy.\n\nGottlieb Viehe built the Old Rhenish Church in 1872.
